Watermelon

Season of watermelon.

I love Kalingad. But I have a bad habit. Habit of taking a sip of water after eating anyhing.
Elderlies say don't drink water after eating Watermelon. That will make you sick. I get to hear it every time I do that.

There is always some reason behind what our elderlies say. And we need to respect that and follow. But that is not it. We need to know the reason behind it.

Watermelon just like its name, is full of water. It is a creeper, and requires a lot of water to be supplied for it to grow. And nature's law shows its effect. Whatever you give it comes back in return. You give water to the creeper and it gives back that water through its fruit. The fruit is full of water.

This fruit comes in the season of heat. And because of that we tend to take more water. But excessive water causes disease, esp in hot season. The cold caused in summer is generally due to excessive intake of water. Not just water, but also anything that is full of fluidity. Watermelon is the best example for it.
Eating watermelon increases fluid levels of body. After having plenty of it, if one drinks water, it becomes equal to pouring a glass in a tank full of water. And he or she who does this is boud to fall sick.

That's the reason they say, 'Don't drink water after eating watermelon!' Because eating watermelon is actually drinking water by chewing. So have faith in our ancestors and science.

And yes, don't make it a blind faith, or you will start shouting when someone eats one small piece of Kalingad and drink some water.
