My Aunt called me to ask about Panchakarma. She asked me, "How much time would it take to complete all Panchakarma?"

Me- It may take months together.

She- Actually my friend is about to take Panchakarma. They give Panchakarma package in 10 days. How come yours is this long?

Me- Wow, this must be some supernatural technique. What all things they do in 10 days? Give me their address, I want to learn. (I don't hesitate to learn new things.)

She- They do 5 procedures in Panchakarma; like Full body Masaage, Full body Fomentation, Foot massage, Facial, and they pour oil on head and do Head massage. Total five therapies. Each will be done twice in 10 days. Double benefit.

You will find such interesting packages everywhere putting you in doubt, like why these Ayurved docs take so long for doing Panchakarma? When Panchakarma is such a lovely, and soothing procedure, Why do they portray it as some difficult procedure?

If just some 5 things become Panchakarma, then why not do Bathing, Brushing, Eating, Drinking, Working and call it Panchakarma? Even these are 5.

According to Ayurved, these are not Panchakarma. These are just pre operatives of Panchakarma. Panchakarma are Vamana, Virechan, Basti, Shirovirechan and Raktamokshan. There should be enough gap between two procedures for patient to regain the strength. Like a patient after surgery. Whereas the procedures carried under the name of Panchakarma are just therapies which makes one feel relaxed. In pre operative conditions these procedures help in removing Dosha, but if done simply, it won't give a long Lasting effect. And for the want of Double benefit people fall in Double complications.

Rather than going to such Panchakarma salesmen, bettet visit your Vaidya to know more about Panchakarma. And beware of those who do Panchakarma in couple of days. You will end up spending a lot of money and blaming Ayurved for not giving any relief.

One more thing, if you find any spa person offering Panchakarma, tell him that what you give is not Panchakarma. If you don't know this, in near future people will take you to 5 beaches for Sunbathing and call it Panchakarma.
